CYNTHIA MULLINS oil and pastel paintings
Exit 46, Easton Turnpike
2009
Pastel and acrylic
13" x 24"
$975

This is the first pastel of the series and depicts the beautiful art deco Easton Turnpike Bridge. The bridge has channels down each side with a hollowed out basket of stone where it looks like you could put a very large floral arrangement.
This is one of my favorite bridges. I also like the lamp post shown to the right; it has a nice touch to the curve of its post at the top and inside its shade is a glowing orange light that you can barely see. Also interesting to note is the side of the road where there is an asphalt ridge. It's interesting to note how irregular it is, as if a few cars have hit it or maybe when it was made the person who formed it was having an off day?! It's just part of the charm of the Merritt, showing its "human" side.
